Niiwin Indigenous Foods Market
The American Indian Community Housing Organization is developing the Niiwin Indigenous Foods Market in the former 4th Street Deli building. As the first Indigenous-focused food market in the region, it will emphasize selling Indigenous food as well as act as a community gathering space. AICHO envisions the market strengthening the community’s relationship to food, especially food that is culturally appropriate to the region’s history.
The Niiwin Market will launch a new community focus on Indigenous entrepreneurship, health, food system, and economic justice while sharing the Indigenous story of this land and the history of Indigenous food practices. AICHO is currently seeking donations to start up the business and want to make this vision a reality by the end of 2020.
