Minnesota Pollution Control Agency
The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) monitors and enforces environmental regulations. It also tracks Minnesota’s greenhouse gas emissions. One of its current initiatives to reduce greenhouse gas emissions is its Clean Cars Minnesota initiative that is aimed at reducing emissions from transportation, Minnesota’s biggest contributor to greenhouse gasses.
One of the MPCA’s roles is to provide environmental review and issue permits for air quality, water quality, hazardous waste storage, and transportation for Minnesota’s mining industry. When a project’s environmental effects require closer examination, the MPCA conducts an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS). There are many opportunities for citizen involvement in these processes.
