The Duluth Natural Areas Program protects local land of environmental value by designating it as protected natural areas.
The Duluth Natural Areas Program reduces the unfavorable impacts of stormwater and rapid spring snowmelt runoff to rivers, streams, and lakes, while protecting property and citizen health. Expanding the program will create permanent flood protection and ensure the quality and supply of this precious resource through water conservation. It will also integrate sustainable rainwater management techniques into the fabric of the city. And the program will protect our natural resources and preserve the health and beauty of our environment.
Expanding the Natural Areas Program will also help reduce our greenhouse gas emissions by increasing the amount of land we have available for carbon sequestration.
