Developing an Energy Training Corps to serve as an entry into the energy efficiency workforce
About the Energy Training Corps
Eco3 is developing a first of its kind Energy Training Corps. This 25-member AmeriCorps will equip members with robust training and energy industry certifications. Members will gain valuable energy industry experience to prepare them for careers in this growing field.
By the end of their service, members will be well-positioned to step into full time employment as energy auditors and weatherization technicians. They will also have building science knowledge needed to enter the HVAC or solar fields.
Our Goals
- Train 25 members annually in home weatherization, energy efficiency protocols, and accredited certifications needed to enter the energy efficiency industry
- Complete work that improves the efficiency of local housing stock and reduces utility costs for residents
- Improve the energy efficiency of 750 residences across Duluth over 3 years, reducing resident utility costs
- Form an Energy Training Center to support training, store vehicles and supplies, and welcome residents

Energy Training Corps – Auditor and Lead
Energy Auditor and Crew Leads will be trained to perform whole home energy assessments, energy modeling, and weatherization work. They will also have the opportunity to assist in program development, household recruitment, and member recruitment. Our training will provide certification up to the Building Performance Institute (BPI) Building Analyst Professional level.
Coming in the Spring - Weatherization Tech
Be on the look out for the Energy Training Corps Weatherization Tech summer position applications. Members will be trained up to BPI’s Building Analyst Technician level, prepared to do more of the day-to-day weatherization installation with the guidance of Ecolibrium3 Energy staff and Crew Lead members.
