Eco3 Projects Advance with Help from Volunteers

Eco3 had the pleasure of teaming up with volunteer groups this past month from Essentia Health, Architecture Advantage, and University of Minnesota Duluth. Each group enthusiastically helped us advance our projects in the Lincoln Park community.

Essentia Volunteers work together to remove weeds at the site of the future grocery store and speed up the renovation of the interior by deconstructing a wall

Essentia Health employees volunteered at the site of Eco3’s future grocery store, located at 2014 W Superior Street in Lincoln Park. The group spent the day doing yard and beautification work. They also took part in the deconstruction of a non load-bearing wall, a next step in the building renovation for the Eco3 Grocery Store.

Volunteers from Architecture Advantage outside of Legacy House

Eco3 enjoyed working with volunteers from Architecture Advantage, the architecture firm designing and managing the remodeling of the Lincoln Park Community Center and the renovation of Eco3’s future grocery store. The company spent its team building volunteer day improving the Legacy House. Volunteers hung drywall for the HVAC air handler closet and worked in the yard doing weed removal, beautification, and invasive species removal. The team applied stain with brush and rollers to waterproof the rear porch that was originally built by the Carpenters Union apprenticeship program. The fortification of a retaining wall, which was previously unfinished and unstable, was also completed.

UMD freshmen pick up trash at Lincoln Park

UMD partnered with Eco3 to connect new college students to the Duluth community and showcase the eclectic mix of businesses the Lincoln Park District has to offer during Welcome Week to kick off the 2024-2025 school year. Student volunteers cleaned up garbage and litter in the Lincoln Park neighborhood, and afterwards enjoyed an ice cream social at the Lincoln Park Love Creamery location.

We appreciate the enthusiasm and hard work of these volunteer groups that collaborated with Eco3. We were struck by the amount of positive energy, smiles, and teamwork that occurred throughout the day. Volunteers seemed to find their way into specific tasks, leadership roles, and self exploration through physical labor and serving others.

We are always grateful for volunteer help and look forward to working with more community groups in the future.
