Get Bike Commuter Education
Biking is a fun, practical, and accessible way to stay in shape and help reduce our reliance on fossil fuels. Do you want to start biking to reduce your carbon footprint but are not sure where to start? A number of organizations in Duluth offer free or low-cost biking education courses.
If you’ve always been interested in year-round bike commuting, but weren’t sure about exactly what you might need to safely get started, Duluth Folk School offers winter bike commuting classes. Topics covered include traffic principals and bike laws, basic winter bike maintenance, clothing, gear, and equipment needs, logistics of bike commuting, winter-specific safety, and discussion of available resources. Duluth Bikes is a nonprofit that supports biking in our community. Check out its news and events, including the Annual Mayor’s Bike Ride and Bike to Work Month (May). And, look to Zeitgeist for it’s Winter Bike Week and Bus, Bike, Walk Week.
There are a number of online resources for commuters where you can learn everything from how to fix a flat to how to map your route. The League of American Bicyclists is a great place to start.
