Bag It Duluth
Bag It Duluth is an effort of businesses, nonprofits, and individuals working towards promoting and instituting zero waste policies in Duluth. It hopes to achieve an end to single-use plastic in Duluth and decrease the amount of plastic polluting our parks, water ways, and roadsides, and is working towards these goals through education and citizen-backed policy initiatives.
Most recently, the group was successful in pressing the Duluth City Council to pass an ordinance requiring that retailers charge customers 5 cents for every disposable plastic bag they use. The ordinance passed in November 2019 and was set to take effect in April 2020, though the COVID-19 pandemic has pushed the start date to 2021.
Bag It Duluth encourages individuals to sign the pledge on the website to commit to zero waste and to patronize local businesses that are helping citizens in that venture, joining more than 2100 Duluthians who have already done so!
