Duluth had the honor of hosting this year’s RE-AMP Network’s Annual Meeting from September 17 to 19. Made up of over 130 nonprofits and foundations across eight states of the Upper Midwest, the RE-AMP Network works to equitably eliminate greenhouse gas emissions in the Midwest by 2050. As a member organization, Eco3 is able to share ideas, learn from others, and work together through a whole-systems approach to reducing carbon emissions.
Over 100 participants joined the Annual Meeting sessions focused on the current RE-AMP five priority areas: transportation, agriculture, buildings, energy democracy, and integrated voter engagement. In addition, members were able to learn a bit more about Duluth and Northern Minnesota through a panel of local speakers on the complexities of mineral mining and environmental protection, a field trip to Enger Tower to learn more about Duluth’s industrial history and indigenous and natural history, and a ceremonial drum and tobacco pipe ceremony and panel on treaty rights led by the American Indian Community Housing Organization.
Celebrating its 20th year, RE-AMP’s work has led to climate-focused policy changes, improvements in energy efficiency resource standards, and the retirement of over 150 coal plants. We look forward to working together for more change in the years to come.
